A new cement walk and pad was poured for the 12-foot-tall manlift to be mounted on.

To help Jim access the upper level of his home, his friends started by pouring a concrete base and walkway for the Hercules II vertical wheelchair lift and then used his New Holland TC45 tractor to put the lift in position.  The TractorByNet.com forum describes the project in detail how these men shared work skills and camaraderie to help their friend. Read their forum thread here!

In the Bible, the book of Hebrews chapter 13 verse 3 teaches “Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.”  When we know someone who is bound, (perhaps with physical ailment or unchangeable circumstances) or suffering adversity, it is important that we come to their aid.  The men in the TractorByNet forum are a good example of this.  As much Jim was able, he worked, but when he was at the “end of his rope”, others who were able gave of their time and abilities to bless him.

If Jim was able, but unwilling to install this equipment on his own, that would be lazy.  Lazy is wrong.  EnablingHercules II 149" tall wheelchair lift installed. someone to be lazy is wrong.  But, it is better to err on the side of being too helpful, than on the side of not helping a person who is unable to help themselves.  At DisabilityWorkTools, we believe it is critically important that every person work to their potential.  If someone has a skill at welding, but can no longer stand up, we are committed to helping them adapt so they can work in the most efficient, profitable and healthy way possible.

What we don’t want to do is perform the work tasks that each person is responsible to do for themselves.  We want to enable people to work and accomplish their own goals.  Notice that Jim’s friends in this story helped him install the wheelchair lift, and then they went home.  They did not move in with Jim so they could push the buttons on the lift, fix his coffee and make his bed.  Jim can do those things on his own…now that his friends have enabled him to do so.

So if you, or someone you know needs help working to their potential, give us a call.  We’re happy to help lift your burdens and enable YOU to carry them as the Lord gives you ability.
